  • Overview

    The Accounting Specialist I primarily performs accounting responsibilities to assist the Accounting Manager and Senior Finance Manager.  This position will split time performing various accounting and  administrative duties related to the maintenance of Allsup’s financial records and the remaining time will be responsible for making phone calls to SSA.

    Responsibilities

    • Generate daily cash position report by summarizing information gathered from online banking system
    • Reconcile daily invoicing and cash receipts before posting to general ledger
    • Reconcile reports and supporting documentation to the general ledger on a monthly basis
    • Maintain fixed asset register as capital is purchased, retired, or disposed
    • Perform invoicing function for all auxiliary product(s)
    • Assist in preparing audit and tax work-paper schedules
    • Provides back-up support to various Accounting staff as needed
    • Monitor awarded cases until benefit information is secured and verified as correct
    • Maximize Allsup cash flow through a proactive and aggressive call program to the district offices, payments centers, and Office of Hearing Operations
    • Accurately and thoroughly document claimant’s files with conversations with Social Security Offices, payment centers, etc.
    • Review Workers’ Compensation/State Disability Insurance documentation and calculate offsets to ensure correct benefit release
    • Perform necessary follow up with SSA when fees are improperly withheld, overpaid, or service fees are not properly applied

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree preferred with 6 months of work history or associate's degree with 2-4 years of work experience in the Accounting field or equivalent experience.  Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.  Organizational, detail-orientation and solid verbal and written communication skills, a must.  Candidate must be able to perform recurring tasks on a daily basis in a timely manner with accuracy.  Knowledge of the Social Security disability process preferred.
