The Director of Business Development is primarily responsible for increasing the volume of disability and other services sold to commercial entities. The Director of Business Development will meet with contacts ranging from mid-level managers to senior executives at groups including but not limited to large insurance carriers, third party administrators, and employers. Additionally, the Director of Business Development will work closely with the Allsup account management team members to implement services and grow relationships with clients.


  • Develop a sales and marketing plan for an assigned account and prospect list.
  • Utilize sales/marketing material and presentations for Allsup commercial services.
  • Work toward achieving desired level of sales meetings per month.
  • Host seminars, attend and participate in trade shows and conferences.
  • Obtain membership and officer positions with selected associations.
  • Develop a strong network of contacts with consultants, brokers, and other professionals to enhance sales efforts.
  • Lead Allsup team to negotiate contracts and agreements for services.
  • Partner with the Director of Account Management and Account Managers to ensure client needs and expectations are met.
  • Responsible for ensuring the most effective use of travel budget to achieve sales goals.
  • Participate in training to enhance sales and service skills.
  • Maintain and monitor records and reports for sales activity.
  • At regular intervals, communicate to the Vice President of Sales and Account Management the progress toward achieving goals and detail the plans to realize year-end goals.
  • Participate in department meetings and conference calls.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.



  • Possess a minimum of three to five years of demonstrated success in sales with large and complex organizations specifically focused in the group disability benefits;
  • Feature existing relationships within Allsup’s field of play;
  • Bachelors degree required;
  • Be willing to travel nationwide up to 50% of the time;
  • Demonstrate superior written and oral communication skills;
  • Exhibit the interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and nurture complex client relationships.
